Solution 1: Completely disabling Norton Internet Security
One solution is to simply disable your firewall entirely while you're working
inside of THE. For that matter, by temporarily disabling your firewall, you can
often determine if your firewall is causing the problem, or whether it's the
software you are using. To do so:
-
Right click the Norton icon in the lower right corner of your screen.
-
Click Disable Norton Internet Security
in the list.
-
Use the Elearning courses in THE as usual.
-
Close THE when you're finished.
-
Right-click the Norton icon again and choose Enable Norton Internet Security.
As you access to THE EDU-PAK courses with your firewall disabled if it works
as it's supposed to, then there's probably a Norton setting that needs to be
changed.
Solution 2: Disable Pop-up and Ad Blocking
To disable Ad Blocking
-
In the main window, on the left side click Norton AntiSpam.
-
Click Ad Blocking > Turn Off.
To disable Pop-up Blocking
-
In the main window, on the left side click Norton AntiSpam.
-
Click Pop-up Blocking > Turn Off.
Once you have configured Ad Blocking or Pop-up Blocking, information may still
be blocked on the Web site. This may be because the Web site information is
being stored in your Web browser's cache. You must clear the cache for the
changes to work.
To clear the cache in Internet Explorer
-
Start Internet Explorer.
-
Click Tools > Internet Options.
-
Click Delete Cookies.
-
When you see the prompt "Delete all cookies in the Temporary Internet File
folder?" click OK.
-
Click Clear History.
-
When you see the prompt "Are you sure you want Windows to delete your history
of visited Web sites?" click Yes.
-
Click OK.
Solution 3: Customize Security Settings
Customize security settings
The blocking of Java applets and ActiveX controls can cause the problem. It may
be necessary to change security settings to prevent them from being blocked.
To customize security settings for Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal
Firewall 2003/2004
-
Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
-
Double-click Personal Firewall.
-
Click Custom Level.
-
In the "Customize Security Settings" window, look at both the Java applet and
ActiveX boxes.
If either or both are set to block, lower the security level.
-
Click OK.
-
Click OK.
-
Try to connect to the Web page again.
Solution 4: Configure the Web Rules
Web rules
If elements of the Web page are still being blocked, there may be a Web rule
that is blocking scripts, Java applets, ActiveX controls, or referrer
information.
To determine whether Web rules are blocking the page in Norton Internet
Security or Norton Personal Firewall 2003/2004
-
Open Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall.
-
Double-click Privacy Control.
-
Click Advanced.
-
Click "Add Site."
-
Type the URL for the Web site that contains that Web page.
For example, www.test.com may be the Web site that contains the page
www.test.com/samples/sample1.html.
-
Click OK.
An entry is added to the list for that Web site. If the Web site was already
listed, it is not added again.
-
In the left frame, click the name of that Web site.
-
In the right frame, click the Global Settings tab.
-
Under Information about your browser, uncheck Use default settings.
-
Click Permit.
-
Under Information about visited sites, uncheck Use default settings.
-
Click Permit.
-
Under Scripts, uncheck Use default settings.
-
Click Permit.
-
In the right frame, click the User Settings tab.
-
Under Java applets, uncheck Use default settings.
-
Click Permit.
-
Under ActiveX controls, uncheck Use default settings.
-
Click Permit.
-
Click OK.
-
Click OK again
-
Exit the program.
